Your Friday Question: Something New
What do you want from a theatrical experience?
All this talk of value on these internets (which I'm still sifting through) has often been some high-level, big picture stuff. It got me interested in the very small.
I loves me some words, so it was a challenge for me to state as simply - yet specifically - as I could what experience I seek when I go to the theatre.
"Great theatre consumes me (baggage and all) in a narrative other than my own, seducing me into intimacy and inspiring me to a new perspective."
25 words, and it captures everything I value in theatre: Time outside oneself, emotionally engaging, intellectually stimulating. And I think these three things are essential: lose one and the show will be lacking somehow. Most importantly, it's an expression of the preconscious conversation going on inside me as I sit in the audience.
So, in 25 words or less, what's your definition? Be specific!

I want to be surprised, captivated, provoked. I want to leave wanting to reexamine my life and compare it to what I've just seen on stage.
I'm one word over. =)
